Yankees game 160 preview (10/2/15)

With three games to go, the Yanks finally punched their playoff ticket. Now Luis Severino (5-3, 2.77 ERA) tries to get home-field advantage for the Wild Card taking on Wei-Yin Chen (10-8, 3.35 ERA) and the Orioles. Severino is coming off a six inning shutout of the White Sox, allowing five hits for his second win in three starts. This will be his first time facing Baltimore.

Chen is having the best season of his career. His 3.35 ERA is the lowest in his four years in the league and his 150 strikeouts are four shy of his high. He allowed two runs on five hits through 5 2/3 in his last start against Boston, but his offense got shutout so he took the loss. He is 1-1 with two no decisions in his four outings against the Yanks this season.

Tidbits:

The Yankees need one win, or an Astro loss, to secure home-field for the Wild Card game.

Chen is 3-5 in 13 career starts against the Yanks.

The Yankees bull pen has 589 strikeouts, tying the Major League single season record for the most K’s by a pen.
