Yankees game 19: Harvey dominates to split series

New York Mets 8 – New York Yankees 2

Matt Harvey stepped into enemy territory and stepped up his game.

For the fans that complained about it, the Mets’ Lucas Duda made quick use of the hitter’s advantage in right field. In the first inning, the Mets first baseman would hit a two-out solo home run into right field off of CC Sabathia to put the Mets ahead early.

Through the first two innings, Matt Harvey kept the Yankees off the board. Stephen Drew would try to get the Yankees back on the board with a deep fly to right field that fell just short of a home run so the Yankees’ second baseman had to settle for a double. Didi Gregorius would hit a single to put runners on the corners. Jacoby Ellsbury would hit into a somewhat productive double play as the tying run would score.

The tie would not stand for long as the Mets struck back against CC Sabathia in the fourth inning.

Michael Cuddyer would lead off the inning with a single. Two outs later, Juan Lagares would hit to deep right center for a run-scoring triple. Wilmer Flores would add on a run-scoring single and the rookie catcher Kevin Plawecki would hit a two-run home run, his first home run of his major league career, extending the lead to four.

Eric Campbell would hit a solo home run in the sixth inning off of Sabathia and a single would spell the end for the Yankees lefty. Lagares would come around to score after a pair of wild pitches by Esmil Rogers to finish off the line for Sabathia.

In five innings, CC Sabathia allowed seven runs on nine hits while walking none and striking two.

The Yankees would get a second run on Matt Harvey in the seventh inning when Mark Teixeira went deep for his eighth home run of the season. Matt Harvey would thoroughly dominate the Yankees in their own ballpark though.

In 8 2/3 innings, Matt Harvey allowed two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Mets fans cannot still complain about the short porch, can they? Wait, they probably will find another reason to.

Win – Matt Harvey (4-0)

Loss – CC Sabathia (0-4)
