Yankees game 23 preview (5/1/16)

The Yankees (and all of us) want to put April behind them and hope a new month can spark some offense, as well as keep them from getting swept. Nathan Eovaldi (1-2, 4.38 ERA) will have to out pitch David Price (3-0, 5.76 ERA) for that to happen. Eovaldi is coming off the best start of his Yankee career. He had a no hitter going for six innings against the Rangers before giving up just two hits with six strikeouts in his first win of the year.

Price is coming off a 14 strikeout outing against the Braves, where he allowed two runs on six hits through eight. He is 13-7 with a 4.04 ERA in 30 career starts against the Yanks. This will be his first time facing them as a member of the Red Sox. In his last four starts against the Yanks, he is 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA. During that span, he has struck out 27 and walked only five.

“It’s exciting,” said Price. “It’s definitely a rivalry I’ve seen kind of my entire life. I was growing up a fan of the game of baseball, and to be a part of that is special.”

Tidbits:

Price leads the league with 46 strikeouts.

The Yanks have lost 11 of their last 15.

Eovaldi is 2-0 with a 4.24 ERA in three career starts against Boston.
