Yankees game 35 preview (5/14/16)

Ivan Nova’s (1-1, 4.34 ERA) second start of the year will be no picnic, as he takes on Jose Quintana (5-1, 1.38 ERA) and the White Sox in game two. Nova threw 84 pitches through just 4.2 innings in his first start in place on the injured CC Sabathia. He gave up one run on a solo shot against the Royals, and came away with a no decision.

Quintana, that creep can throw, man. He has a 0.64 ERA in his last four starts, and is holding opponents to a .186 batting average with 24 K’s over 28 innings. He allowed one run on six hits through seven innings against the Twins in his last start. Like Sale, he has not allowed more than three runs this year.

Quintana spent four years in the Yankees system, never making it past high-A, but had an 18-7 record with a 2.63 ERA between three leagues.

Tidbits:

Quintana is averaging 0.2 HR/9 innings.

Nova is 3-1 with a 2.54 ERA in six starts against Chicago.

Quintana’s 1.38 ERA is the best in the American League, and second in the league behind Jake Arrieta.
