Cleveland Indians 4 – New York Yankees 6

CC goes nine to complete the sweep with a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Indians.

CC Sabathia got the call for the finale of the series with his former team. Through the first five innings, Sabathia was in control. He allowed his first hit on a bloop single in front of left fielder Vernon Wells in the fifth inning.

The Indians turned to Corey Kluber to avoid the sweep. Cano hit a routine out to center that was dropped for a costly two-base error. It proved costly when former Indian Travis Hafner would hit a two-run home run to give the Yankees an early lead. The second inning would actually go worse than the first for Kluber. A single followed by a double would put two in scoring position for Chris Stewart. The Yankees catcher would single in a run and Brett Gardner would proceed to clear the bases.

On a 1-2 hanging curveball, Gardner would hit a home run deep into right field for his sixth home run of the season, giving the Yankees a six-run lead after two innings.

The sixth inning would drag on a little long as CC would allow three consecutive singles that ended his shutout. A fielder’s choice to follow allowed another run before he would get a strikeout to end the inning. The seventh inning would prove to be troublesome as well for the big lefty. With one on, catcher Yan Gomes would take CC deep for a two-run home run and put the Yankees lead at just two. However, CC would give the bullpen the day off and goes nine innings.

In nine innings, CC Sabathia allowed four runs on seven hits with one walk. He also struck out nine with his 116 pitches. For Hafner, this was his third home run of the season against his former team. In the seventh inning, Vernon Wells came up with the bases loaded and an attempt at ending his tremendous slump but would pop out lightly to the second baseman. He is in a 3-for-45 slump.

Win – CC Sabathia (6-4)

Loss – Corey Kluber (3-4)
