New York Yankees 2 — Baltimore Orioles 4

Three home runs are enough to complete the sweep in tonight’s 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

After a scoreless first by the Yankees, the Orioles made immediate impact on the scoreboard. Third baseman Manny Machado took Yankees’ starter Hiroki Kuroda deep to put the Orioles ahead early.

The Yankees got a rally going in the second inning. Zoilo Almonte would start the inning with a single. Two outs would follow but Chris Stewart, who was struck in the head by the back swing of outfielder Adam Jones to end the first inning, would single and David Adams walked to load the bases. Brett Gardner would walk on a full count and would tie the game. That would be the end of it as Ichiro Suzuki would pop out to end the inning.

Momentum would change once again.

In the bottom half of the second inning, Chris Davis would lead off with his 31st home run of the game to retrieve the lead for the Orioles. In the third inning, Travis Hafner would get a single but an ill-advised attempt for second base would result in the second out of the inning. The inning would be worse on the bottom half. Nate McLouth would take Kuroda deep for the third solo home run of the night.

I thought the Yankees were the “Bronx Bombers.” At least one Yankee lived up to the moniker.

In the sixth inning, Robinson Cano led the inning off with his 17th home run of the season to make it a 3-2 Orioles lead. The Yankees fans would awake with the home run but three outs followed and the momentum slowed down. Often injured Oriole, Brian Roberts would succeed in his return to the field and brought in a run in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly.

Against closer Jim Johnson, the Yankees would get two on in the ninth but a strikeout and a ground out ended the game and the series.

This is the Yankees third five-game losing streak of the season. For the Orioles, this was the first three-game sweep of the Yankees since 2005.

Receiving just two runs of support, Hiroki Kuroda lost with four runs surrendered on seven hits with seven strikeouts through six innings. He might feel like he’s back on the Dodgers again.

Win – Chris Tillman (10-2)

Loss – Hiroki Kuroda (7-6)

Save – Jim Johnson (28)
