Yankees Game 91: Teixeira Homers in Shortened Shutout

Toronto Blue Jays 0 — New York Yankees 6

With rain in the forecast, a 4-run 1st guided the Yankees to a 6-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in just 7 innings.

Hiroki Kuroda was dominant over a weakening Blue Jays lineup in today’s game. The Blue Jays, without home run threat Jose Bautista in the lineup, also lost third baseman Brett Lawrie in the 3rd inning as he attempted to make a catch in foul territory before flipping over the railing and crashing into the camera well along the line. Over the 7 shutout innings, Kuroda had precise control, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 5 on what will be listed as a complete game shutout.

Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero could not get things right in his start today. The first 3 batters he faced reached base, highlighted by a two-run home run by Mark Teixeira. That immediately extended the Yankees streak of 3 or more runs for their 42nd consecutive game. Robinson Cano continued his hitting streak with a double in the 1st followed by an Andruw Jones single to bring in Cano to complete the 4-run 1st. Joe Girardi continues picking the right pieces when Dewayne Wise, starting in place of a resting Curtis Granderson, hit a run-scoring ground-rule double to bring in the 4th run of the game. Wise would also come through with a run-scoring single in the 6th as the Yankees offense appears to be hitting throughout the lineup. The Yankees hit 4 for 6 with runners in scoring position as they completed the sweep of the Blue Jays and prepare for a west coast trip starting in Oakland.
