Yankees Game 94: Home Runs Beat The Bombers

New York Yankees 1 —  Oakland Athletics 2

Brandon Inge and Yoenis Cespedes had the deciding hits in tonight’s 2-1 loss to Oakland Athletics.

Phil Hughes pitched 7.2 strong innings that were ruined by 2 of the 4 hits he surrendered. Of his 117 pitches, only 2 of them brought in runs as Yoenis Cespedes continues to swing a hot bat with his 13th home run of the season in the 4th inning and Brandon Inge’s deciding solo home run in the 8th, his 9th of the season. Normally for most teams, two runs over 7.2 innings would be enough for a win, more so with the lineup the Yankees present, but they could not muster the offense needed.

Raul Ibanez’s run-scoring single in the 4th was the only offense they could bring in against the third rookie of the Oakland Athletics staff, Jarrod Parker. Over 8 innings, the Yankees managed just 1 run on 5 hits against Parker. None of those hits were by Robinson Cano, ending his hitting streak at 23. A single and a steal by Alex Rodriguez in the 9th inning but the tying run in scoring position but a strikeout of Andruw Jones ended the game.

Win – Jarrod Parker (7-4)

Loss – Phil Hughes (9-8)

Save – Sean Doolittle (1)
