New York Yankees 0 — Texas Rangers 3

Yankees held to just three hits in tonight’s 3-0 loss to the Texas Rangers.

The Yankees had the tough task of facing Yu Darvish tonight and it was as big a challenge as it was marketed to be. Through the first four innings of the game, the Yankees managed to get one batter reach base. Brett Gardner reached to open the game when he was hit by a pitch but Robinson Cano hit into a double play to end that inning.

Ivan Nova had the task of matching zeroes with Darvish and a poor call by second base umpire Lance Barksdale didn’t do Nova any favors. Ian Kinsler started the first inning with a walk and after one out, Kinsler tried to steal second. It looked like Kinsler was out but Barksdale called him safe. The batter that follows, Adrian Beltre, hit a single to center field and Kinsler would go on to score the first run of the game.

The Yankees would not get the first hit off of Darvish until Lyle Overbay hit a bloop single over the third baseman. Travis Hafner would actually walk in the inning too but nothing would come of it. Overbay would solve Darvish one more time in the seventh inning with a sharp single to right field. Vernon Wells would walk to end Darvish’s night. The only two hits off of Darvish were from Lyle Overbay in 6.1 scoreless innings. With two on with one out, Travis Hafner faced left-hander Robbie Ross and Hafner did just what Ross wanted, hit into a double play.

A walk in the sixth would come into score off of Nova. Nelson Cruz hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Through seven innings of work, Ivan Nova gave up three runs on seven hits. Normally good, but this is not the normal Yankees team.

The Yankees would get their third hit, and first hit by someone not named Lyle Overbay. Ichiro Suzuki hit a single but that would be it. The Rangers finished the game and the Yankees lost with little effort on their part.
