Yankees hit four home runs in 8th inning, win 7-0

TORONTO – Jason Grilli had one of his least memorable outings on Saturday afternoon, serving up four home runs in the 8th inning, and the New York Yankees won, 7-0.

Toronto Blue Jays’ starter Joe Biagini effectively shut down the Yankees through his seven innings of work. Biagini allowed only one earned run (three unearned) and struck out six while ceding only four hits.

Yankees’ starter Jordan Montgomery was stellar in his outing. The rookie did not allow run over his six innings pitched and struck out five. To go along with Montgomery, the Yankees’ bullpen held the Jays scoreless in their three innings of action. Adam Warren, Tyler Clippard and Dellin Betances combined for four strikeouts in relief.

Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday both hit their 12th home run of the season off of Grilli in the monstrous 8th inning. Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorius also hit bombs off of the Jays’ reliever.

The Blue Jays’ offense, which has been hot of late, struggled mightily on Saturday. They combined for only three hits, two of which backup catcher Luke Maile recorded.

With the victory, the Yankees improved to 32-21 on the season and sit three games above the second place Baltimore Orioles, pending the result of their game tonight.

UP NEXT: The Yankees will look to win the final game of the series when Luis Severino takes the mound against Marcus Stroman.
