Yankees vs Mets (5/13/14)

Vidal Nuno Yankees_ Indians 2013

Vidal Nuno (1-0, 5.47 ERA) gets the ball in game two of the Subway Series against Zack Wheeler (1-3, 3.89 ERA). Nuno got his first win of the season his last time out, holding the Angels to one run on four hits over a career high 6 1/3 innings. Since joining the rotation from the bull pen he has a 3.54 ERA in four starts.

Wheeler followed up his worst start of the season with his best, blanking the Marlins for six innings in Miami. He earned a no decision, though that’s hardly a bad thing for a pitcher with five quality starts and just one win.

CC Sabathia was placed on the 15 day DL but he has decided to see Dr. James Andrews for a precautionary visit and an additional opinion, Brian Cashman said on Monday.  “The best case scenario is CC gets the knee drained, rests for five days and gets a couple of bullpens under his belt, and he takes the start after he comes off the DL,” Cashman said. “That’s the best-case scenario. I’m not saying that’s the scenario we’re dealing with yet, but that’s the best.”

Shawn Kelley was also placed on the DL prior to Tuesday’s game and Zoilio Almonte was called up.

Notes on the game

The Mets have held a lead in 31 of their 37 games this season. Not including their four shutouts, they have led in 31 of 33 games.

Monday night Alfonso Soriano became just the seventh player with 1,000 career hits in both the AL & NL. He also became the first player to record 1,000 hits, 500 runs scored, 500 RBIs, 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases in each league.
