Everything looks Swishalicious early on in Triple-A for the energetic first baseman. In his first four games with the RailRiders, Swish is batting .429/.471/.714 with a double, a homer, three RBI and two runs scored. He has manned first base in three games, committing no errors with 21 putouts in 23 chances. It’s a small sample size, but promising nonetheless.
Swish was signed to a minors deal earlier this month after being released by Atlanta in March. From 2009-2012, he hit 105 homers for the Bombers with a 124 OPS+ and quickly won over the fans with his energy and personality. While his .162 average in October irked some fans, he still loves the Bronx and is ready to prove himself.
“I absolutely love it,” Swisher said. “All I can say is thank you. For a place like New York, the most electric city in the world, to have that love for me, I feel blessed. Now, I have to prove that I can make it back. Whatever I have to do to help a team win, that’s what I have to do.”
Primarily a first baseman now, he will more than likely be Mark Teixeira’s primary backup if/when he gets back to the Bigs.
