Brett Gardner nominated as a Gold Glove finalist

New York Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner was nominated as a finalist for the 2016 Rawlings Gold Glove award.

The 33-year-old is arguably one of the best defensive left fielders in the sport. Throughout his career with the Yankees, Gardner has been a defensive standout, and his numbers prove he is well-deserving of the award.

In 2016, Gardner ranked second among American League left fielders in both putouts (249) and fielding percentage (.989). He also had nine assists, which was also good for third most in the American League.

Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals and Colby Rasmus of the Houston Astros are the other finalists for the award. Gordon is the only one of the finalists at the position who has won the award. He was awarded the Gold Glove for both the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Gardner was the only Yankee to be named a Gold Glove Award finalist this season. If he wins the award, he’d be the first Yankee to bring home the award since Mark Teixeira won it at first base in 2012.

The winner of the award will be announced on November 8.
