Brett Gardner has been selected to the All-Star game as a reserve by American Leauge All-Star manager Ned Yost. Gardner will replace injured outfielder Alex Gordon on the team.

Gardner, 31, has had his best year in the majors this season, hitting .304 (as of the 4th inning in Thursday’s game vs. the Athletics). The speedy outfielder hit his 10th homerun in today’s game as well, the most he has ever hit before the All-Star break in his career.
To go along with the 10 homeruns, the former third round pick out of the College of Charleston, South Carolina has 40 Runs Batted In, mostly hitting in the leadoff spot since the injury to Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury has returned to the lineup, moving Gardner back to the second spot with an opportunity to drive in more runs.
This is the first All-Star game appearance for Gardner, who has made a strong case all season long to be a part of the Midseason Classic. The eight-year pro has been a consistent bat in the Yankees lineup for the entire season, and Gardy is being rewarded to represent the team along with first basemen Mark Teixeira, and reliever Dellin Betances in the 86th edition of Major Leauge Baseballs All-Star game.
