Brett Gardner wins Gold Glove Award

Brett Gardner is now a Gold Glove outfielder.

Gardner was announced as a 2016 Gold Glove Award winner earlier tonight, making him the first Yankee outfielder since Bernie Williams (2000) to win the award, and the first Yankee overall to take home the hardware since Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano in 2012.

Gardner, 33, had nine outfield assists in 2016 (second-highest career total) and the most by a Yankee since 2011 (Granderson-11, Swisher-9). He ranked first among all MLB left-fielders with 86 out-of-zone-plays-made and ranked fourth with 12 defensive runs saved, according to Fan Graphs. Gardner also came in third among all left-fielders with 249 putouts, and second with a .989 fielding percentage.

Gardner had a few tremendous defensive plays in 2016, but his most memorable is certainly that game-ending catch against Toronto which saved the Yankees’ season at the time. So take a look back at that play and enjoy. Congrats, Gardy!
