Godzilla Joins Yankees Front Office

The 2009 World Series MVP is back in the Bronx. Hideki Matsui has been hired by the Yankees as Special Adviser to the General Manager.

It was announced Tuesday that Matsui will work with Brian Cashman and Vice President of Player Development Gary Denbo. He will spend most of the season working with minor league teams discussing hitting with managers, batting coaches and players.

Matsui played in the pinstripes from 2003-2009 and hit .292 with 140 homers and 597 RBIs. He capped off his last season hitting .615 (8 for 13) with three homers and eight RBIs in the World Series on his way to being named the MVP of the series. He went on to play with the Angels, A’s and Rays from 2010-2012. On July 28, 2013, the Yankees had Hideki Matsui Day at the stadium where he signed a one day contract to formally retire as a member of the team.
