Injury update: CC Sabathia and Dustin Ackley

Crisis avoided. CC Sabathia does not need surgery on his knee. This could have sidelined him for the rest of the year, leaving a hole in the starting rotation for the Yankees. He could be back in about 15 days with arthritic knee, which is a very common type of arthritis. When it comes down to it, arthritic knee is just a “wear and tear” type of injury, and CC will likely be doing easy exercises on his knee to reduce the pain. Having Sabathia back soon adds depth to the Yankees rotation that could come in handy come playoff time.

As for Dustin Ackley, he will begin his first rehab stint on Thursday for Double-A Trenton. Ackley was acquired right before the trade deadline before suffering a herniated disc just after two appearances for New York. Ackley struggled at the plate this season with Seattle, but he can play numerous positions and his power numbers should improve at Yankee Stadium.
