Ivan Nova to start Sunday, CC moved to Wednesday

Ivan Nova will get the nod to start Sunday vs. the Tampa Bay Rays in the finale of a three game set with the divisional foe. CC Sabathia was originally scheduled to start Sunday’s game but has been pushed back to Wednesday to face the Oakland Athletics.

ESPN New York writer Andrew Marchand tweeted the idea that if the Yankees wanted to move Sabathia to the bullpen, this could be the start of the process. Although there has been no official word from the Yankees about any move to the ‘pen concerning the lefty pitcher.

On the season, the 34-year old former ace has pitched to a 3-8 record with a 5.59 ERA in 95 innings pitched. He has surrendered 19 homeruns already this season through 16 starts. His career high in an entire season was set back in 2013 as he allowed 28 big flies.

Since returning from Tommy John surgery, Nova has been impressive in his two starts going 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA. With his return to the rotation, it bumped out Adam Warren, although Warren was impressive this season as a starter going 5-5 with a 3.58 ERA.

The Yankees do not have to make a decision about Sabathia’s future in the rotation at the moment, but due to his next start being pushed back three days, it only leaves one to wonder if the Yankees organization will be making any enormous changes in the foreseeable future. Sabathia is still under contract with the Yankees until the end of the 2017 season.
