Jeter to play in Scranton

Derek Jeter will take a big step in his rehab process, as he will play for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Thursday, according to Andy McCullough of the Newark Star Ledger.

Jeter, 39, is slated to play five innings in the field tomorrow night in order to test out his right calf which he strained on August 2. The Yankees have said that Jeter will likely play at least two games in Scranton, which makes a Friday return in Tampa unlikely. Although there is no clear timetable for his activation, if all goes well over the next few days we could see Jeter back with the big league club by the end of the weekend.

Eduardo Nunez and Jayson Nix will continue to share the shortstop duties while Jeter is out. On the year, Jeter has played in just five games going 4-for-21 with a homer and two RBI.
