Report: Yankees DFA Mason Williams; place Tyler Austin on DL

On Thursday night, the New York Yankees decided to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Unfortunately, the roster move came at the expense of outfielder Mason Williams.

According to multiple reports, the Yankees have designated Williams for assignment, which now brings the roster count to 39 players.

Williams hit .252/.298/.296 with one homer and 19 RBI in 61 games with the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. In five games with the Yankees, Williams hit .250/.294/.250 with no homers and a RBI.

In addition to the Williams news, the Yankees also placed Tyler Austin on the disabled list with a high-grade strain in his hamstring. He’s scheduled to meet with Dr. Daniel Murphy in Tampa.

This is Austin’s second stint on the disabled list.
