Report: Yankees shopping Ivan Nova on trade market

Aroldis Chapman was the first pitcher to say goodbye to New York, but could Ivan Nova be next?

According to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, the Yankees have shifted their primary focus to shopping the 29-year-old Nova, who becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

“They’re focused on him,” a source told Feinsand. “They’re looking at the guys with expiring contracts first – though not Beltran right now.”

While an arm such as Andrew Miller is considered a top commodity to a handful of teams in playoff contention, a few clubs have reportedly expressed interest in Nova, including the Miami Marlins, who are in dire need of starting pitching to keep a competitive edge.

The source believes that the Yankees’ starting price is considerably high.

“They know what the pitching market looks like right now and they’re trying to capitalize on that,” the source said.

Discussions between Miami and New York for Nova have occurred at least once in the past year, as Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported the Marlins’ inquiry for the right-hander in early January. Nova’s teammate, Michael Pineda, has also drawn interest in South Beach.

In 14 starts this season, Nova is 7-5 with 72 strikeouts, 101 hits, and a 4.65 ERA .
