Report: Yanks won’t trade Severino or Judge for Hamels

With trade rumors swirling around Cole Hamels, the Yankees will reportedly not give up two of their top prospects in Aaron Judge and Luis Severino to get the star left-handed pitcher, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies have interest in both prospects, but the Bronx Bombers have turned down the Phillies each time they have approached the idea of the trade.

Hamels boosted his stock after throwing his first career no-hitter Saturday vs. the Cubs. The veteran pitcher has been linked to the Yankees in past seasons, though the teams have never made a deal happen. The Yankees also have brought it to teams attention they have no plans to trade Severino, Judge, first baseman Greg Bird, or shortstop Jorge Mateo.

The Yanks still have ongoing interest in the pitching market; Mike Leake and Jeff Samardzija are two names to keep an eye on as the trade deadline looms. Although there is no report of the Yankees making an offer to either the Reds for Leake, or the White Sox for Samardzija. The Yankees have stated they like where the team is at right now, but the trade deadline brings surprises.

The Rangers and Dodgers appear to be the top two teams in the running for Hamels. With five days to go until the deadline, all eyes will be on the Phillies.

The non-waiver trade deadline is Friday, July 31st.
