Yankees call up Clint Frazier for doubleheader vs. Nationals

Clint Frazier will spend a Monday night in the majors again.

The 23-year-old outfielder was promoted from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the Yankees’ one-and-a-half-game doubleheader against the Nationals in Washington, D.C, the team announced.

Utility infielder Ronald Torreyes was also optioned to Triple-A, which means Frazier is eligible to play in both games. The Yankees still have the choice to call up an additional pitcher as the temporary 26th man on the roster.

Brett Gardner (right knee inflammation), will not play in Game 1, but he will be allowed to pinch-hit in Game 2. Gardner underwent an MRI on Sunday, and results came back clean. He’s day-to-day.

In three big league games this season, Frazier has hit .375 (3-for-8), and in 38 Triple-A games, he’s hit .312 in 154 at-bats.

Game 1 will start at 5:05 p.m., with the score tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
