Earlier today, the Yankees announced they had recalled INF/OF Tyler Austin from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. However, the Yankees didn’t announce who would be the corresponding move until 4:30 in the afternoon.
According to Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network, the Yankees placed 1B Garrett Cooper on the disabled list with left hamstring tendinitis.

Austin played four games with the Yankees before going on the DL, hitting .154/.200/.385 with a homer and two RBI. With a surplus of outfielders, it’s likely the Yankees will use Austin as Chase Headley‘s backup at first.
Austin played three of his four games this season at first base.
