Eduardo Nunez will be chasing down his helmet in the Twin Cities.

It was announced yesterday that New York traded the 26-year-old infielder to Minnesota in exchange for 20-year-old left-handed pitcher Miguel Sulbaran. The Yankees had 10 days to either trade Nunez or place him on waivers after he was designated for assignment right before the season started.

Nunez was once considered to be the heir apparent for Derek Jeter. However, he’ll just be remembered as being the never-ending prospect. His inability to improve year-to-year, especially in the field, concerned the Yankees enough to where they had to part ways.

Although he has some pop in his bat, Nunez was never able to make an impression on the coaches; he was also susceptible to injury. General Brian Cashman said that they hoped to give Nunez a chance to be an everyday player elsewhere, so that he could get steady playing time. The Twins were a perfect match since they lack organizational depth at the middle infield spots.

The scouting report on Sulbaran is that he’s a strike-throwing lefty who throws his fastball anywhere between 89-92 mph; he always features a changeup and slider. In four minor league seasons, with the Dodgers and Twins organizations, Sulbaran owns a 21-10 record with a 3.15 ERA.  Standing at just 5 foot 10 inches, Sulbaron is viewed as a development project. Since he’s only 20, the Yankees have plenty of time to develop him.
