The Yankees have added three players to the 40-man roster in right-handed pitchers Johnny Barbato and Rookie Davis, and also outfielder Ben Gamel. The move keeps the three coveted players in the farm system away from being placed in next months Rule 5 Draft.
Davis, 22, started the 2015 season in Class A Advanced Tampa and moved up to Double-A Trenton throughout the year and went 8-7 with a 3.86 ERA in 25 games, including 24 starts. He went on to finish the 2015 season second in the Yankees farm system in strikeouts with 129 punch-outs.
Barbato is a 23-year-old righty who spent time in Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season. He went 6-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 40 relief appearances, adding three saves to his name.
Gamel, 23, was impressive during the 2015 campaign hitting .300 driving in 64 runs while blasting 10 homeruns. He added 28 doubles and score 77 runs. He added some hardware during the year as well as he was named the 2015 International League Rookie of the Year. He led the league in triples and added a (.472) slugging percentage, which ranked second.
The Yankees farm system has become deeper in recent years and it is starting to show, as Davis is ranked 10th by MLBPipeline.com and Gamel is ranked as the No. 30 prospect.
