Robinson Cano not happy in Seattle

It appears the honeymoon phase between Robinson Cano and the Seattle Mariners may be wearing off. Sources, including Michael Kay on his radio show on Monday, are speculating that Cano, just a year and a few months into his mega contract with the M’s, is unhappy in Seattle. The reasons include the lack of a Dominican population in Seattle, which is about as far away from the DR as you can get in the continental US. Because of their remote location the Mariners have longer travel than any team in the league (their closest road trip is still 2 hours by plane). It also appears Cano may feel used by Jay-Z; that Jay-Z needed Cano to make a splash to put Roc Nation on the sports management map. (Hey Jay-Z, I thought you were a Yankees fan…thanks a lot dude).

Oh cry me a river, Robbie. You are a year-plus into a 10 year deal and just now realizing what we all knew… Seattle is not New York. The Mariners are not the Yankees.

Last year, his first in Seattle, Cano had a good year and finished 5th in MVP voting. He was all smiles every time someone asked how he liked Seattle. The Yankees apparently “disrespected” him because they did not want to go to 10 years on his contract. From a business perspective I totally understand why Cano took the most money on the table. I’ll never blame a player for taking the money. Yes, we see guys take hometown discounts occasionally, but its rare. In taking the money though, Cano missed out on an opportunity to stay with the most famous team in sports that plays in a ballpark that is tailor-made for him. Now he’s in a park that is gigantic (don’t tell Nelson Cruz that though) on a team that very few people care about. He has become invisible. He was on his way to the Hall of Fame and now is largely unnoticed. I’m sure Seattle is a great place if you want to get stoned and listen to Pearl Jam, but Seattle will never be New York and the Mariners will never be the Yankees. Apparently Robbie has finally realized that. Oh, and it probably doesn’t help that he’s having the worst statistical season of his career… but I guess that’s a chicken or the egg scenario, no?

Whatever the reasons, whether Cano is unhappy or not, he realizes he made a mistake leaving the Yankees. I would venture to guess if Cano had a do-over he would have stayed in New York. And that’s something he’s going to have to live with for the rest of his life.

  1. Seattle is not New York – to which we all shout – thankfully!

New York is a hole in the ground – what a crappy city.

Andrew, get over yourself and your awful city.

  2. oh, “sources…are speculating?!” well sh!t! start drawing some conclusions based on people guessing things!

  3. That could be the worst written article I’ve ever read in my life. No facts. No substance. TMZ like. Sounded like a dude that got dumped by a girlfriend and is still digging for her attention

  4. “Seattle is not New York.” True statement. Seattle is better. Have some facts, then write an article next time.

  5. Don’t know if Cano is unhappy in Seattle. Most players, unless they’re in the declining years of a career, would not view being swapped from the Yankees to either the Mariners or a host of other teams as being a sign of good fortune. Seattle is an improved team with Cano but it is still saddled with the reputation of being a place where one goes to disappear.

  6. Don’t know if Cano is unhappy in Seattle. Seattle is an improved team with Cano but it is still saddled with the reputation of being a place where one goes to disappear.

  7. Be nice for the Yankees to bring Robbie back.

Don’t feel the Yankees were aggressive-enough from the jump – but from their POV their long-term contracts have hurt developing and/or getting others.

Cano back with the Yankees’d make them very serious contenders.

Especially because the pitching is coming-around, and Hamels is available.

  8. I feel sorry for Cano. He took the money and ran. Sorta like leaving a good woman for pretty girlfriend, then finding out the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence. Boo hoo hoo.

  9. All we have here is speculation by a Yankees broadcaster, jumped on by a Yankees blogger, who can’t get over being jilted. And provincial New Yorkers never can understand why a successful person wouldn’t want to be in their city, or play for their teams, anyway. No substance to this piece, at all. But, hey, you got a headline on Yahoo! News, which will pull in traffic! Woooooooo!

  10. The Yankees stink. The Yankees had a glorious period in the Ruth – Gehrig – Dimaggio eras. They were still the largest city with the most moolah. But the “glory” of New York has long ago faded. It is a great place for certain things–do not get me wrong. But unless you live there or (again) have tons of moolah, it is nothing but hassles and headaches. The Yankees had another great “mini-era” in the 1990s with Jeter-Williams-Torre. After that ended, they have simply more and more tried to “buy teams” and they have failed more and more in that endeavor–proving that “money isn’t everything”. Believe me! How many World Series have the Yankees won in the past 15 YEARS??? LOL With their humungous payroll over that same span–5 or 6 or 7 times the payroll of many teams–they look more and more pathetic as an organization and they have tarnished the “glorious Yankee eras” of the past. This article reeks of talk about “the most money”–but that is BS and shallow. The Royals and the Giants were in the World Series last year–the Yankees were not even close. Just sayin’…. 😉

  11. What you say is so true. This crap appears more and more on Yahoo! and is actually the Yahoo! standard for journalism–pathetic! Sad excuse for an article.

  12. Just a couple of thoughts here. My guess is most of the 3.5 million plus people in Seattle would much rather be in Seattle than NY but I want the NY people to stay there and not come here.Secondly what is the big kick of playing in a cracker box. Is it just to get into the HOF because of a short porch.
Cano seems not interested in the “hype” and baggage of NY and was able to make a move that benefitted his desires .I commend him.
I douby id any Seattle players are enjoying the season right now but that has nothing to do with location.Imagine Cano could be in NY now listening to constant boos and death threats. You can keep NY and their *HOF players if that was important for baseball in Seattle we would build HOF porches for our hitters also.

  13. I am pretty sure that Cano would play in Seattle for half of any Yankee offer.
Quality of life is important to many people.

  14. Andy Rotund, I bet you have never spent any time in Seattle or you would understand not only why Robbie left the skankees and skanktown. To say the Cano is unhappy without asking him would be like me saying you are an idiot without asking ….. oh no wait you proved that with this article.not the same.

  15. Andy I take back all the nasty but true things I said about you if you promise to stay where you are and never, never come to Seattle.

  16. Sorry, but one of the reasons he signed with Seattle was because the Yankees “disrespected” him. Not quality of life. Unless you consider a boat load of money “quality”.

  17. With the programs Cano is building at home it is obvious that Cano is a person where baseball means more than glitz, hateful fans and short porch HR’s

  18. They stink as an organization. Learn how to interpret. We will see where they are in October, bud! 😉 With their payroll they try to buy an unfair advantage…yet, they cannot even do that right!!! LOL. How many World Series have they been in over the past 15 years?? So much for “success”…..lol

  19. Wow. Cano was used by Jay-Z. Shocking…this must be the first time ever an agent used his client to get rich. Cano, quit whining a be happy every time you cash that paycheck.

  20. If he’s unhappy, he should offer to void his contract. I’m sure the Mariners would breathe a huge sigh of relief and agree to it.

  21. Robbie is miserable just as I thought he’s be and his numbers show it. And now he’s stuck in Seattle for the rest of his career…

  22. If you’re honest with yourself and you’re a baseball player, you’d rather be on the Mariners?? Really?

  23. City of Seattle has population of 650k. Population of King County (which includes all the cities surrounding Seattle, including Bellevue and Redmond) is only 2 million. Where are you getting 3.5 million people??

  24. Ah, still time to turn things around. You want to go statistics I’ve no problem with that. Cano is a streaky hitter. He has his good years and bad years. So this year is shaping up to be one of the down years. Season is still young. He’s one hot streak away from putting the team on his back and hitting .400 for a month. Plenty of time to turn this one around. Cano is still the best hitter on the team. Nobody else can make the adjustments and drive the ball like he can consistently.

  25. Didn’t say NY was awesome. He went with the money and now regrets it. I’m sure he’s not the only one who went with the money, then regrets it later on. He just realizes how much he loved the NY Yankees and the limelight.

  26. You must be smoking something Bryan (well you’re in Seattle) The glory of NY has faded?? How would you know it’s hassles and headaches? You sound very bitter. Pathetic organization? And when did the Mariners last win a World Series?? NEVER!!! So if you’re going to knock an organization maybe you should consider that glass house you live in. The Mariner’s one chance at glory was ended by the Yankees in 2001 the year you won 116 games. (A lot of good that did you.) And we beat you pretty good as I recall. We were serenading Ichiro…it was so nice…
oh and when did you last win a World Series?? You spent a ton of money on Robbie Cano….where has it gotten you?? Shouldn’t be throwing stones dude.

  27. Robbie’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. He made a bad decision based on ego and money and now he’s regretting it.

  28. Honestly speaking if it weren’t for Gardner, robbie could have the chance to really lead the team since derek retired. But he chose to leave a dynasty that respected him the dollars of disrespect guess he can afford respect if he really wants it. Traitor, to think I was this close to buying his pinstripes. sorry robbie but your number is taken like the movie.

  29. Lol… “Robinson Cano not happy in Seattle”…………….. as speculation. Freaking ridiculous. Making a factual statement… that isn’t a fact… but pure speculation based on…… oh yeah, more speculation. This is what we know as journalism now??? I guess it’s too tough to get hired by the National Enquirer.

  30. Ya know, I was kind of nodding along with this article right up until the author got into that typical BS East coast bias about what a panacea New York and the East coast is. “Get stoned and listen to Pearl Jam”? Mighty big words talking about a city where the average techie makes at least 3 times what you do, Andrew – before stock options. Fact is, there’s a reason why Seattle is the biggest booming big city in the country 3 years running now in terms of people flooding into it.

Back to Cano, now that we’ve established you’re a know-nothing hack who undoubtedly goes to bed every night screaming ‘Murica no. 1! when you’ve never left the country: If he wanted to hang w/ other Dominicans, this wasn’t the city for him, and he should have known that since he traveled here multiple times per year w/ the Yankees. He’s making 25 million + per season in a state with no income tax and which is arguably the finest place on planet Earth in the summer. Every night, he’s surrounded by fans who know to treat others with respect rather than to go off half-cocked and to try and show what tough guys they are before they get back onto their public transit (can’t afford a car) and make the long trek to their 4th floor walkup 1 bedroom (that they share w/ their Aunt Edna) to pass out for a few hours before taking on another day of slogging through the streets hoping some bum doesn’t urinate on them. If living in the crown jewel of the Northwest and one of the nicest and most affluent locations in all the land makes him unhappy, perhaps the problem is what stares him in the mirror.

  31. The Seattle metropolitan area has over 4 million people. A 3 second Google search could have saved you from looking like a moron.

  32. Please, lack of Dominican population? these guys are Ok with making money but even as a multi millionaire can’t stand the US

  33. Who is smoking something??? Lmao. When did I say I was from Seattle??? Are you on a prescription med? If so, get your dosage checked. You are WAY off! lol When Yankees fans cannot argue FACTS (like their ridiculous bloated payroll over the past 15 years STRAIGHT) they try to talk about other fans and assume the other person is a rabid “fanatic” also. Huge mistake you made. I dislike the Mariners, ignoramus. So stick to the point! Add up the Mariners payroll for the last fifteen years, liar, then add up the Yankees. AFTER you have that fact then get back to me and we will compare the two teams. Next lie that you stated: I am in New York City every week…I live within a half hour. I am not drinking Yankee Kool Aid like you are…so I am more objective than you. I am not on the drugs like you stated: rather you seem to be! I am not bitter at all, dodo. I asked how many World Series the Yankees won in the past fifteen years to justify payrolls 3 to 10 times the size of other teams payrolls????? Cat got your tongue? Or you drunk on Yankee Kool Aid again??!!! 😉 So because you assumed I was a Mariners fan your letter is a joke! Nice fake name too, “dude”!!!! Hahahahaha. What are you, 16 years old?? Learn how to debate by sticking to points and getting your facts right dodo….like I debate NY lawyers every week! You are the bitter one…truth hurts doesn’t it??? 🙂

  34. Thought it would take 2 full years for Cano to crumble but completely predictable. Another dumb, greedy athlete snookered by “agents” to look only at the dollars. How many times do we see an athlete turn down a boatload of money that they couldn’t spend in 1000 years? Then they whine or tank when things don’t work out on their new team and city. Cano is tailor made for NYY and the fans loved him. The money the Yanks offered him would have set him for life and probably in the HOF.

  35. Seattle is not New York City. No way, no how. And the Mariners are not the New York Yankees.

  36. As I said at the time, he wasn’t only selling out, he was losing his place in Yankee history.

Had he stayed and still been well paid, and as a Yankee for life, he’d have a monument, been a perennial All Star with his surrounding talent, probably made the HoF, been involved in post career Yankee events such as coaching, spring training, old timers games. It’s a pretty exclusive club.

Now, all gone, probably including the HoF. I don’t he he has enough just based on his current stats plus what he’ll add to them in Seattle.

He was ill-advised, and wanted the validation of a huge contract as satisfaction instead of things that he will come to find matter more than the extra millions that he’ll never need.

  37. I like Cano, but honestly, he’s kind of lazy.. He got greedy, he would have more money then he ever needed had he taken the deal from the Yanks but he just needed more. Well you made the decision now have fun in Seattle for the NEXT 8 and 1/2 years

  38. Wow, bitter much? No money? You’re a clown, NYC is the MONEY hub of the UNIVERSE.

  39. Tokyo, London, Hong Kong, SIngapore…all richer than NYC. Even Moscow if you use the “total net worth” metric.

Not bitter at all – simply pointing out that when you balance quality of life to cost of living and earnings, Seattle wins out. Again – fastest growing major city in the country 3 years running. Believe me, I wish it wasn’t so – all you people moving here are making traffic unbearable.

  40. Didn’t say it was. But to call it a city where all it’s good for is getting stoned and listening to Pearl Jam outs the person stating that as a know-nothing hack. Having lived in both cities (and many others), I can say unequivocally that it’s a good thing it’s not New York – because it’s *better* than New York.

  41. You’re bitter and have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. Please stop.
Those money evaluation metrics that you find on the Internet are 45% horse shit

  42. Then do us all a favor and go back there. If “The Land of no Sun” is so amazing and dreamy

  43. How is he a ” traitor” for taking more money? People who call athletes “traitors” are weird.

  44. So you have a problem with this guy judging and stereotyping Seattle but then you go on and do the same to NYC, and on top of that showing your typical leftist hipster self loathing BS about the US…I guess most stereotypes are correct…

  45. Haha again with you projecting your bitterness on to me. Yes, who am I going to trust when it comes to evaluating the wealthiest cities in the world? Peer reviewed think tanks…or Mike Palazzolla or New York City? I mean, don’t get me wrong, you ARE (in your own mind) a world-renowned authority of all things…but I think I’m gonna go with the peer reviewed think tank vs. some guy scraping by in a city he can’t really afford, talking up all its wealth when none of it is raining down on him.

  46. Keep doubling down on the idiocy. For one, I’ve lived in both places, so I can speak to both places. For another…leftist hipster? Oh man, talk about being one of those idiots who likes to spout off about things he knows nothing about.

  47. Having a 32 yo second baseman, hitting .249 with little power, and who is owed $192M after this year, I suspect the Mariners are not too happy either.

  48. Ohhhh, I remember Seattle… I actually did smoke A LOT of weed, but no Pearl Jam. I was more of a Nirvana guy. Then I got serious about my life, moved to NYC and won multiple World Championships.

  49. Seriously who cares if Robbie is happy or not, he thought he screwed the Yankees because they “disrespected him” with a reasonable contract? So who is laughing now, he may have his money but he lost respect and he lost the chance to retire as a yankee and have his number retired and a plaque hanging in monument park. Too bad Robbie, enjoy your money.

  50. Seattle is the place where All Star players go to die on the vine! Promising players leave Seattle to be Star players somewhere else, like the Yankees. It has been years since Seattle has anything resembling a good winning team. Jack Z keeps promising production from this team and year after year it falls on its face. Managers come and go and all seem to pull every Rabbit they can but nothing works. Its hard to be a fan here in Sea Hawks land! I am tired of this year and for years to come!!!

  51. OK so now I have a problem with your synopsis, your characterization of New Yorkers is wrong and obnoxious, New Yorkers treat their sports figures fairly and with respect and not all New Yorkers live in a walk up apartment and take the subway. I am a native New Yorker I live in a half million dollar house and drive a mercedes so take your arrogant depiction and go back to your coffee house and shut up.

  52. I enjoyed the very talented Cano tenure on the Yankees except his lack of hustle to 1st base, but in anywise I would be in favor of Yankees trading for him on the grounds that Seattle eats at least $90 mil.of his current contract of approx. $ 215 mil. bal.,plus we give them a list a list of 6 prospects to pick 3 players from plus we also give them 2 major league ready players.

  53. He disrespected the Yankees and the millions they paid him every time he jogged to 1st base on an infield grounder or fly ball…

  54. I’m glad he is gone. He is not worth a 10 year contract. We don’t need another contract like the ones given to Alex, CC, Mark or Jacoby.

  55. I wouldn’t spit fire when you’re made of tumbleweed. You talkin payroll? Did you see the contract that Cano signed? And, did you really bring up WS titles? How many WS titles have the Seattle Mariners won in their illustrious franchise history? You guys must have won the WS in 2001 when you won 116 games…oh wait….

  56. As a Yankee fan who watched Cano play half-heartedly and go 3-for-40 in the playoffs, all I can say is… boo hoo.

  57. I wasn’t happy in Seattle either. Makes a ton of sense. I mean zero WS appearances? not even an appearance? Buhner called me crying a lot. Felt bad for him.

  58. Still can’t answer the questions??? lol. All Yankees fans drinking the Kool Aid huh??? lol. How many World Series titles did the Yankees win the past 15 years with those bloated payrolls?? Have to buy a team at 3 times to 10 times other teams payrolls and yet the Royals kick your u know what???? Good job Yunkees….. 😉

  59. I live in SC outside of Charlotte, also on the list of growing major cities. Would love to visit but def not moving to Washington. Would love to get to safeco for a Mariners v Yanks game but that is all. And I’ll sample the weed while there.

  60. patrick,i said the identical statement yesterday.probably get seattle to eat alot of that contract.

  61. what is your payment on your mercedes,i live in fl.,my new jag and 1year old caddy are paid for ,big shot.

  62. Hey Andy, the little Skankee Dandy from where….Rhode Island? You want to talk about a team or a place where nobody cares about and you come up with Seattle? That’s pretty funny coming from a boy who grew up in a state where the biggest thing in sports is the Tennis Hall of Fame. Band wagon Skankee fans never seize to amaze me. Oh, and I’m sure that you’ve spoken with your buddy Robbie to confirm that he’s so unhappy in Seattle.

  63. Ooo, a half a million dollar house. Know what that buys you in Seattle? 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, 1100 square feet. And a Merc? Really? For one, nothing to toot about. For another, it’s probably a C-class. And probably old.

  64. If he was hitting he’d be just as noticed as ever, wherever he played – and make it to the Hall. I don’t think Ken Griffey, jr. or ARod were invisible in Seattle, and neither is King Felix. Withal, I ignore the whinings of multi millionaires. But it’s peculiar, if it is so important to him, why he didn’t investigate whether there’s a significant Dominican population in Seattle. I could’ve guessed that would be a no; so that “complaint” seems like a reach either by him or the reporter.

  65. Too bad Art Moreno doesn’t own the Mariners. He would trade Cano back to the Yankees and pay $200M of his remaining salary lol

  66. True, Cano of today in Seattle is quite different from yesteryear. The larger field was mentioned and the character of Seattle is featured in this article. Failed to mention much about Cruz, who is now the offensive leader of the Mariners leaving Cano far behind in fan favorites. As long as Cano has to look up he will continue to fall down, Glad this is happening. Who knows, maybe Drew can get hot and pass Cano in some offensive catagories.

  67. Suck it up Robbie! You decided to sign the mega deal and play in Seattle. Want some chess with your whine?

  68. Cano has talent but he was as much a product of hitting in that line up and playing in the band box in the Bronx

  69. Of course you are going to badmouth Cano. The author is a Yankees fan. Memo to New York- THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU, GET OVER YOUR SENSE OF FREAKING ENTITLEMENT. The rest of us throughout the US (there are what, 7 million people in New York and a remaining 293 million in the rest of the US- you are incredibly outnumbered), are sick of listening to you. Is there anything in that sentence you do not understand. The article is about as credible as something coming out of North Korea’s news agency…one sided to represent a particular point of view. It is not factual as it only gives OPINION, not fact. No credibility on your part only sour grapes that you did not get what you want in resigning Cano. Waaaaah, you want a freaking blanky and binky now? No Jeter to bail you out, and that is another story altogether…no respect at all for Jeter, never have had any, never will.

  70. Cano, you made your bed now sleep in it!! Enjoy the money you are making and get down to the business of playing baseball.
Cano went from the spotlight of New York City and went to almost obscurity by playing in Seattle, no jab at the good people of Seattle, it’s just that Seattle isn’t the Big Apple and the same sports media exposure every day.

  71. hope the extra millions was worth it gee no more short porch no more home runs hmm oh well you got your millions be sure to thank jay z for talking you into the dumbest move of your life

  72. Oh you are so right that Seattle will never be NYC and Thank God for that fact, would never want to live in a place with rats as big as dogs, and people that act like rats, I only wish the multitude of humans that have moved to Seattle from Crassachusetts and New Yuck would get the hell out of out town – If Cano misses the DR, he can go home in the off season, not sure when he would have time to socialize with anyone anyway. I am so thankful I am not you

  73. Haha! Look at the little Dunkin Donuts punk! He thinks he knows everything about Seattle! “Get stoned and listen to Pearl Jam”…yeah ok. Sounds like jealousy. Starbucks…ever heard of it? Probably not. That’s real coffee. Go back to drinking your Dunkin Donuts and shut the hell up!

  74. This coming from classless fans who throw batteries at opposing players and are so full of themselves. You wanna glorify a player with genital herpes (ya, Jeter gave that to Jessica Alba) who has no respect for people and thinks he is holier than thou, go ahead. You don’t get it…the rest of the country is LAUGHING AT YOU. It don’t matter what moronic, juvenile comments you come up with Meehos, I don’t do drugs, and I will be willing to be you have had Starbucks. In short Meehos, you are an idiot.

  75. Fuck you Andrew. It’s just people in NY that don’t care about the Mariners. Get a life. You guys are just butt hurt because someone spurned the Steinbrenner clan. Get used to it.

  76. You’re the one commenting “fuck you” on his blog, so who needs to get a life?

  77. Who the hell would want to live in little Beirut, crime infested, vermin infested, liberal infested, shithole New York

  78. I’d take him back if he wants to. He’s still better than Drew. M’s wouldn’t go for it though I’m sure.

  79. Well if this is true, then I saw this coming from a million miles away. Cano loved it in New York and he left for that boatload of money that the Seattle offered. As a Yankee fan I understand why he left but I knew it was a matter of time before he would unhappy in Seattle. Now he’s stuck there for the rest of his career. Enjoy the money Robbie.

  80. This is a Yankees blog, FYI. 🙂 You can object and disagree all day, but please keep it clean. Please and thank you.

  81. Seattle police Chief is from Crassachusetts, The tool O’Toole, you can have her back along with all the other commie libtards that have moved out west.

  82. Yeah he misses his Washington Heights chicitas, the protection in the lineup and the better PEDS you can buy in NY. DUMMY …way to go JAY Z ,,When the blind lead the blind both end up in a ditch.

  83. all humans are joyous about not being you, tc. nobody wants to be a vocal, irrational, hateful douche….except you, apparently….

  84. I feel sorry for Cano he is a great player but you can tell he is not happy over there I say money is not everything in this life HAPPINNES is what it count, I’m sure he miss his fan and people from NY I hope he overcome and keep playing as he used to do, good luck CANO

  85. I remember when he signed that contract and had that ridiculous beard that Ortiz was sporting at the time and he was saying how the Yankees had “disrespected” him.. His ego told him that no matter where he went he would be loved and adored.. Unfortunately, even though Seattle has some great baseball fans they are mostly a Seahawk town.. I am sure reality smacks him in the face every time the Yankees come to town and there are as many Yankee fans in the stands as Mariner fans.. —— A transplanted New Yorker living close to Seattle

  86. ok, tc. just did via merriam webster. yep. that is definitely you, fascist tc. stay classy.

  87. sorry, tc. I am but a simple and humble american that knows that our two party system is destroying this great nation. republicans and democrats are both equally responsible. that is why only a great, uninformed and/or (intentionally?) ignorant moron would favor one party over the other. seriously, by being partisan, and viciously so, you have denigrated your debate position to the point where it cannot be ameliorated. but do stay classy, tc. remember, you are the epitome of all that is wrong with the current political system. and to think your guidance counselor thought you wouldn’t amount to anything worthwhile! 🙂

  88. All this bitterness and name calling over a baseball team…? Seriously? Who do you root for? I see that you don’t reveal that.
Dodo? Did you really say that??
And you commute to NY…guess you can’t afford to live there..

  89. That is not true at all. He is a consistently good hitter. He had one year where he hit .270 that you could maybe call a bad year. Other than that, the guy was a guaranteed .300 hitter with 25-30 home runs and 100 runs batted in.
