Yankees Agree To A One-Year Deal With Ibanez

The Yankees have agreed to a one-year deal with left-handed hitter, Raul Ibanez, reports Bryan Hoch. The deal is pending a physical.

The Yankees see Ibanez as the left-handed compliment to Andruw Jones, who figures to be the designated hitter against left-handed pitching.

Ibanez hit .245/.289/.415 with 20 home runs and 84 RBIs in 144 games for the Phillies last season.

I as a born and raised and lifelong YANKEE FAN am extremely disappointed with this aquisition. DH? Ibanez is not a stereotypical DH, nor shall he produce DH numbers. An everyday player who could DH is what the Yanks should have sought and a aquired–Tetiera or T-Rex as I like to call him needs days off playing first and DH’ing–and a “real DH” would have allowed him to rest-up throughtout the season. Ibanez accompishes none of the, to me, obvious needs of the YANKS. I have been wrong before, however, I am confident this shall not be one more of those instances.
