Inconsistent Offense and September Call-ups – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #31

The Yankees dealt with injuries and an underperforming lineup in the month of August. In this episode we discuss updates to CC and Tex, what we can expect from Pineda the last month of the season, and who to keep an eye on for September call-ups. We also take two mailbag submissions regarding Stephen Drew, everybody’s favorite Yankee.

CC does not need surgery, which is good news, and has said he will help the team in any way they need him when he comes back — including pitching out of the bullpen. It is good that CC realizes where he is at this point in his career and is putting the team first. Scott and I are not sure he will be any better out of the pen however, and I’ll believe he will actually pitch out of the pen when I see it.

Teixeira, who injured his leg on Aug 17, is not getting any better. He still cannot run on the leg and has only appeared in 2 games since the injury. If he is not healthy for the stretch run then this offense will continue to struggle. The Yankees need him and ARod in the middle of the lineup producing like we sat in the first half.

Tomorrow will be September 1st, and the Yankees will expand their roster. We can expect a lot of pitchers like Pinder, Goody, and Rumbelow to be called up. Also look for Refsnyder to get the nod, but don’t expect him to be plugged into 2B every day (unfortunately). Cashman has said he does not foresee Aaron Judge being called up because he needs more seasoning in the minors. Also Beltran has been playing well and the Yankees do not need much help in the outfield.

The two series vs Houston and Atlanta were complete contradictions. The Yanks were outscored 21-4 vs Houston at home and then outscored Atlanta 38-11 on the road. You can check out the full recaps here: series recap vs Houstonseries recap vs Atlanta. At the very least the Yankees have some offensive momentum going into Boston, where the Red Sox will be looking to play spoiler.
