Jorge Mateo Mailbag – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #61

Jorge Mateo’s strong start to spring training has grabbed the attention of many Yankees fans. Because of this, we received a number of mailbag submissions focused on Mateo. In this special edition of The Bronx Pinstripes Show we discuss: Mateo’s baseball skill set including his ability to steal bases and developing power, if the Yankees will change his position because of their depth up the middle in the system, what the team will do with Didi Gregorius and/or Starlin Castro if Mateo continues to advance, if Mateo has a chance to see time in the Bronx this year or next, and we sneak in an Aaron Judge question. Mateo definitely projects to be the next shortstop of the Yankees, but it is not a given. We already knew he was “untouchable” last trade deadline, but his speed and athleticism has put him on the radar for a lot of fans. The prospect of having him, Castro, and Didi on the field at the same time is extremely exciting but a lot needs to happen first. Mateo is only projected to start the season in high-A ball and advance to Trenton this year, so to expect him to make the jump to the majors by 2016 or ’17 is asking a lot. Crazier things have happened, though. We discuss all that plus more in this episode.

Thanks to Nate, Mason, Sebastian, and @joezmcfly for submitting mailbag questions this week!
