Jorge Mateo’s strong start to spring training has grabbed the attention of many Yankees fans. Because of this, we received a number of mailbag submissions focused on Mateo. Mateo definitely projects to be the next shortstop of the Yankees, but it is not a given. We already knew he was “untouchable” last trade deadline, but his speed and athleticism has put him on the radar for a lot of fans. The prospect of having him, Castro, and Didi on the field at the same time is extremely exciting but a lot needs to happen first. Mateo is only projected to start the season in high-A ball and advance to Trenton this year, so to expect him to make the jump to the majors by 2016 or ’17 is asking a lot. Crazier things have happened, though. We discuss all that plus more in this episode.
