The Yankees have arrived – The Bronx Pinstripes Show #58

This week on the BP Show we talk about Yankees spring training news and updates, including the bullpen session heard ’round the world, CC’s comments about rehab and how he will deal with it going forward, Beltran mentoring Aaron Judge, and a free agent deal with Tommy Hunter that fell through. We also discuss the Yankees Ticket Exchange and the team’s ongoing feud with Stub Hub and other secondary ticket markets. Around MLB we preview the White Sox and Mariners, and answer a voicemail question about the Rule 5 Draft. Get involved with the show by submitting a mailbag question, story, or rant here. Last week it was just pitchers and catchers who reported to Spring Training, but the entire roster will report on Wednesday. This means the season is inching closer and we could not be happier!

It was reported from camp this week that Beltran is prepared to mentor Aaron Judge. 2016 will probably be Beltran’s last in baseball; what better way to go out than mentoring his heir apparent in right field? The Yankees and their fans hope Judge will be able to make the step from Scranton to the Bronx in 2017, perhaps sooner.

Shout out to the unnamed person who left a voicemail asking about the Rule 5 Draft (be sure to leave your name and Twitter handle next time). The Rule 5 Draft gets pretty complex when you dig into it, but the main goal of the draft is to prevent teams from stockpiling young players in their minor league system if they could otherwise compete for a big league spot with another team. If a players meets Rule 5 eligibility, he can be plucked from his team and be placed on his new teams’ 40 man roster. I found this interesting list of some big nam players in history who were selected in the Rule 5 Draft, including Roberto Clemente, Johan Santana and Josh Hamilton.
