Spring Training Game 25: Warren allows one in loss

New York Yankees 5 — Tampa Bay Rays 6

The New York Yankees visited the Tampa Bay Rays and Adam Warren got the nod for the start. The Yankees got on the scoreboard first. In the second inning, Rob Refsnyder was walked with one out and Slade Heathcott would hit a double to deep center field, scoring Refsnyder from first base. The Rays would not have to wait long to tie the game up when Evan Longoria continues to be a thorn in the side of the Yankees, even in the spring. The solo home run by Longoria led off the bottom half of the second inning.

In the fourth inning, J.R. Murphy got on base with a single with one out. Then with two outs, Slade Heathcott would walk and Ramon Flores hit a double to right field, scoring Murphy to give the Yankees back the lead.

Warren would get two outs in the fourth inning to end his day. In 3 2/3 innings, Adam Warren allowed one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five.

After the work by Adam Warren, Jose Ramirez would come in and have his first full inning in the fifth. The first four batters reached against Ramirez. Three singles and a walk would generate two runs, tying the game at three.

Chris Martin took over in the sixth inning and it could not have started worse. The first batter Martin faced, Desmond Jennings, would go deep to left field, breaking the tie. A single and a pair of stolen bases would result in a run after a wild pitch.

The Yankees would get one run back on a Didi Gregorius double in the seventh inning. In the ninth inning, the Yankees still trailed by two. Jake Cave would cut the lead down to one with a single but the Yankees would fall short in defeat.
