Yankees in Panama: CC shines bright in Legend Series win

Yankees-logoNew York Yankees 7 — Miami Marlins 0

CC Sabathia got the start today in the second of two games in Panama. The Yankees lefty had the command of his pitches today. In the fourth inning of Sabathia’s start, he would strikeout the side and would get weak contact throughout his five innings.

In five innings, CC Sabathia allowed one baserunner on an error while striking out five and walking none. Bottle that up and take it to the Bronx.

The Yankees got to Marlins starter Nathan Eovaldi in the second inning. Francisco Cervelli would a perfect day at the plate, going three-for-three and being involved in many of the scoring innings. The Yankees catcher started the second inning with a single and Spring Training standout Yangervis Solarte would follow with a single of his own. Zelous Wheeler would put a ground-rule double into left field to give the Yankees a one-run lead.

Carlos Beltran and Cervelli would each bring in a run in the fifth inning as the Yankees put some distance on the scoreboard. Solarte would bring Beltran and Cervelli in with a two-run single to give the Yankees a five-run lead. Star prospect Gary Sanchez would bring in the last of the runs with a two-run home run when he pinch-hit for Derek Jeter in the ninth inning.

The heir to Mariano Rivera, David Robertson would make an appearance in this game and continued the no-hitter with one strikeout and one walk in a scoreless inning. Preston Claiborne would end the no-hit bid when he surrendered a leadoff single to left field by Giancarlo Stanton in the seventh inning. Stanton would be thrown out when he tried to stretch his single into a double. Cesar Cabral continues to make his case for a spot on the Opening Day roster with a perfect inning with one strikeout. Chris Leroux finished off the game with two strikeouts in an inning of hitless baseball.

In two games at Panama, one team was no-hit and one team was one-hit. Any pitchers want to play in Panama? The Captain and the other Yankees that went to visit Mariano Rivera and Panama are headed back to Tampa to continue Spring Training.
