Yankees-logoNew York Yankees 2 — Washington Nationals 3

For the Yankees, the slimmer CC Sabathia continues to prepare for the regular season. In the first inning, Sabathia would walk the first batter he faced. A hit-and-run single by outfielder Jayson Werth put runners on the corners with one out. Catcher Wilson Ramos would ground into a force out at second but the first run would get on the scoreboard.

Like the first inning, Sabathia started the second with a walk. First baseman Tyler Moore would hit a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Sabathia would strike out the next two batters he faced before third baseman Anthony Rendon would hit a ringing double into the left field corner. Two more would score as the Yankees likely Opening Day pitcher struggled.

In three innings, CC Sabathia allowed three runs on four hits while walking two and striking out three.

Nationals starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann was on the top of his game today. Zimmermann was perfect in his four innnings, striking out four Yankees as he gets into regular season form. With two outs in the fifth inning, Eduardo Nunez would get the first hit for the Yankees with a triple to right field. Dean Anna would get the Yankees on the scoreboard with a single to score Nunez. In the sixth inning, Zoilo Almonte would hit a leadoff double and eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Brett Gardner.
