Yankees Player of the Week: 7/17-7/26 Edition

With the second half of the Major League Baseball season starting about a week and a half ago, this weekly post will look back on the previous 9 games. The Yankees have been absolutely scorching in July, going 14-5 since July 1st, and 7-2 since coming back from the All-Star break. Many players have factored into the Yankees recent success, but the player who has stood out the most over the last week and a half is Alex Rodriguez. While his batting average and on-base percentage over the 9 game span wasn’t terrific, he proved just how valuable he is to the team this season. Over the 9-games, A-Rod hit .267, with 5 home runs, 7 runs scored, and 7 RBI’s. His most important game coming on Saturday evening, with an impressive 3-HR performance, helping the team come back from after trailing early in the game.

After losing in horrific fashion to the Twins on Friday night, another loss on Saturday would’ve been an extremely rough start to a 10-game road trip. Instead, with A-Rod leading the way, the Yankees fought, and fought, and came out on top 8-5 and would win the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon, setting the momentum for what should be a good week in Texas and Chicago.

Honorable Mention:
Chase Headley (.344 BA; 11 H; 1 HR; 9 RBI; 5 R; .353 OBP)
Mark Teixeira (.424 BA; 2 HR; 3 RBI; 6 R; .486 OBP)
Nathan Eovaldi (1-0; 13.2 IP; 2.63 ERA; 9 K; 12 H; 4 ER; 1.171 WHIP)
Masahiro Tanaka (2-0; 14.2 IP; 3.68 ERA; 14 K; 10 H; 6 ER; 0.818 WHIP)
