Yankees Records And Milestones In 2015

Records are made to be broken. When you’re the New York Yankees, hitting historical milestones is a way of life. There will be more than a few reached by players in Pinstripes, some more than others (if at all). Below are Yanks set to climb in the record book.

    • Alex Rodriguez – Alright, I’ll start with A-Rod because he’s been here the longest. How do I approach these numbers but to say, take them with a grain of salt. Of course we’re all fully aware of the overall home run chase, to which I say, Scott Boras is an evil genius for convincing whomever negotiated bonuses into A-Rod’s contract for hitting home runs that don’t break records. Don’t get me wrong, 660, 714 and 755 are huge numbers in baseball lore but according to the MLB record book, no longer the most of all-time. I digress. With the Yanks, A-Rod is two games played from becomingย 25th in games played. A-Rod is 55 runs scored away from being 12th on the Yanks list. A-Rod is 61 hits from 3,000 and 138 away from being 20th on the Yanks all-time ledger. A-Rod is 50 homers from passing Yogi Berra for 5th in club history, so Yogi, I think you’re safe. He’s also 21 RBI from 1,000 with New York.
    • Mark Teixeira – Another player who has been around for awhile. Tex is tied for 45th on the club list with 147 doubles and if one goes by a conservative estimate of 20, he’ll rank 41st, just ahead of Tom Tresh. At 160 home runs, Teixeira is knotted with Roy White at 26th and if we give him 20 here too, that jumps him ahead of quite a few, including Bobby Murcer for 21st. His next RBI will give him 500 with the Yankees.
    • Brett Gardner – Notorious B.M.G. Gardy is now the longest tenured home grown Yankee. Whoa! If we’re giving him ten triples this season, that would mean 51 in his Yankee career and it would tie him for 24th with White and Gil McDougald. Three stolen bases gives him 185 and places him into 6th on the franchise list. Gardner is 18 away from 200 steals and 52 away from 5th in club history.
    • CC Sabathia – Big CC is yet another veteran on this squad. Sabathia’s 91 wins with the Yanks are tied for 20th with Tommy John. CC is just nine victories from 100 in his Yankee career. Sabathia is 31 starts from making 200 with New York. Sabathia is 214 strikeouts away from passing Mel Stottlemyre for 7th on the franchise list.
