Teixeira plays in first extended spring game

Mark Teixeira is starting to inch towards a return, as he is finally playing in extended spring training games. Teixeira went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, according to his twitter feed.

Teix is aiming to be activated on May 31st, however the Yankees may take things slow which could push back his return to early June. Manager Joe Girardi has said that Teix’s rehab assignment will take longer than Curtis Granderson’s, who only appeared in a handful of minor league games.

Lyle Overbay, who is hitting .259 with six homers and 24 RBIs, could possibly be the odd-man out when Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis eventually return.

Ever since my parents bought me a Paul O'Neill shirt at my first Yankees game back in 1994 I've been a diehard fan. I graduated from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., in 2011 with a degree in Communications/Sports Journalism, so writing about the Yankees has always been a passion of mine.
