April 7, 1977 – Reggie Jackson Makes Pinstripes Debut

In the Yankees 1977 season opener, future Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson makes his debut in pinstripes against the Milwaukee Brewers. Mr. October, as he would go on to be called, batted fifth and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Yankees 3-0 win. Jim “Catfish” Hunter throws 7 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits, to go with 5 strikeouts and no walks. Newly acquired Jim Wynn would DH for the Bronx Bombers, and hit the only home run of the game.
