CC Throws Bullpen; Beltran Throwing Shutdown

The Yankees left-handed workhorse, CC Sabathia threw two innings this morning in a simulated game at the teams Tampa complex. Sabathia threw 34 pitches to live batters and came out feeling fine, no issues with his knee. Next step for Sabathia is some rehab games. He is scheduled to pitch Saturday in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League, which will effectively start his 30-day rehab clock. If all goes well he could be back after the All Star break.

On quick note, Carlos Beltran felt tightness in his right forearm after doing some throwing exercises Sunday. Basically he’s going to handcuff the DH spot. There is no timetable for his throwing program to resume right now, there’s even a chance he doesn’t play in the outfield the rest of this season. Obviously this is a result of the bone spur in his elbow, which he plans on getting fixed this offseason. But this setback certainly puts damper on the way manager Joe Girardi writes the lineup card from here on out.
