Ty Hensley, the New York Yankees’ first round selection in the 2012 Amateur Draft, will undergo hip surgery today, per the Trentonian’s Josh Norris.
Hensley first announced the surgery on his Twitter feed this morning, and Norris later confirmed with Hensley’s agent. According to the NY Post’s George King, Hensley will miss two to three months worth of action as a result of the surgery.
“He had a pulled abdominal and it turned out this was the cause,” Senior VP of Baseball Operations Mark Newman said.
It was originally projected that Hensley would report to Single-A Charleston for the start of the 2013 season. The 19-year-old had spent his first professional season with the GCL Yankees, recording a 1-2 record with an ERA of 3.00 in five appearances (four starts).
