Scranton/Wilkes-Barre may have won the International League North Division Championship, but the playoff push wasn’t enough to prevent the club from getting stripped of some key components at the start of call-up season. The Yankees announced today that they have recalled six players from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, including fan favorite Francisco Cervelli, who will serve as the third catcher throughout September.

Also promoted were utilityman Eduardo Nunez, outfielder Chris Dickerson, and pitchers Adam Warren, Cory Wade, and Justin Thomas. Only Dickerson was not on the 40-man roster, and Ramiro Pena was designated for assignment to take his place.

Cervelli should have been recalled much much earlier.

No, he should have been left in the minors. This season has been so much more enjoyable without Cervelli around the big league club.

Cervelli played at the level he belonged at this season. The Yanks’ catching situation wasn’t great, but a .240 hitter at AAA certainly wasn’t the answer.
