Captain cleared for baseball activities

Derek Jeter and the Yankees received good news on Thursday after the Captain met with his surgeon, Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina. The soon-to-be 39 year old shortstop has been cleared for baseball activities.

Jeter Β tried to make it back for Opening Day this season but couldn’t after on-going soreness and an X-ray revealed a small crack in the surgically repaired ankle. After weeks of inactivity and being confined to just throwing and dry swinging, Jeter can now run and do the things he needs to do to get ready for a return.

Jeter will no doubt take things slower this time, making sure the ankle responds well to increased stress. The Yankees are hoping that he can rejoin the lineup in about six weeks – which puts Jeter back in the Bronx around August 1st. Although that’s a rough timetable, the team has said all along that they expect him back sometime just after the all-star break.
