The 11th week of the season proved to be yet another tough week for the Yankees. They finished the week with a 3-3 record, by splitting the two-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as splitting the 4-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. For the 11th week of the season, the Yankees player of the week is Zoilo Almonte. On June 18th, the Yankees called up 24 year old Zoilo Almonte from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre where he was hitting .297, with 6 HR, and 36 RBI in 68 games. It didn’t take long for the rookie to make a name for himself in The Bronx. In the first 12 at-bats in his young career, Almonte racked up 7 hits to end the week with a .583 batting average. He hit his first big league bomb to go along with 4 RBI’s. He put up a 1.000 SLG, with a 1.643 OPS.

This call up could be huge for the Yankees who have been really struggling over the past two weeks. Almonte could be the spark to help the Yankees get their season back on track. Take a look at some of Almonte’s highlight from an exciting week for the ‘rook’.
