Youkilis: ‘definitely a chance’ he’ll return in 2013

Third base has been a revolving door for the Yankees this season. With Alex Rodriguez sidelined for most of the year and Kevin Youkilis recovering from back surgery, the team has trotted out David Adams, Brent Lillibridge, Chris Nelson, Jayson Nix and Luis Cruz to the hot corner- all of whom have been underwhelming.

“I feel good,” Youkilis said Monday before going to his physical therapist in Manhattan, adding that there is “definitely a chance” for a return this year, according Christian Redd of the Daily News. Youk underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back on June 20, after hitting .219 with two homers and 8 RBI in 28 games this season. He was able to begin rehab wo weeks ago, and, according to his agent Joe Bick – “so far, so good.”

However, actions speak louder than words, as we’ve seen injured Yankees deem themselves ready to play, only to come back and go right back on the DL again. The Yankees put out a timetable of about 10 weeks for Youkilis after his surgery. That would put him back in the Bronx sometime around September. However, If this season is any indication of how things will go, we may have seen the last of Kevin Youkilis in a Yankee uniform.
