Yesterday, Ivan Nova returned to his “Supernova” form in a complete game shutout against the Giants. Unfortunately, the Indians are playing the Astros, so the Yankees are facing another must-win against the Giants this afternoon to ensure to remain only 3 games back. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rays: 5-1 win vs Orioles. Alex Cobb strikes out 12 in 8.1 innings.

Indians: 4-1 win vs Astros. Scott Kazmir strikes out 10 in 7 innings of work.

Rangers: 3-1 win vs Royals. Matt Garza finally has a good start for the Rangers.

Yankees: 6-0 win vs Giants. Ivan Nova dominates Giants with complete game shutout.

Orioles: 5-1 loss vs Rays. O’s bats don’t wake up after short turnaround.

Royals: 3-1 loss vs Rangers. Royals offense never gets it going against Matt Garza.
