Despite a solid start from Andy Pettitte last night, the Yankees lost and fell to 3.5 games back of the Rays and Rangers. A win tonight and the Yankees will gain some ground somewhere in the standings, but winning is easier said than done. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rangers: 7-1 win vs Rays. 3 home runs power Rangers to win.

Rays: 7-2 loss vs Rangers. Jeremy Hellickson struggles for Rays.

Indians: 5-3 win vs Royals. Indians score 5 unanswered runs to beat Royals.

Orioles: 3-2 win vs Red Sox. Chris Davis hits 51st home run in win.

Yankees: 2-0 loss vs Blue Jays. R.A. Dickey stifles Yankees.

Royals: 5-3 loss vs Indians. Bullpen lets down Royals.
