The Yankees announced Friday that they have acquired minor league righty Luis Gil from the Twins in exchange for outfielder Jake Cave.
The 19-year-old Gil made 14 starts in the Dominican Summer League last season, going 0-2 with a 2.59 ERA and 49 strikeouts. In his small sample size of work (30 appearances from 2015-17) he has racked up an impressive 73 Ks in 65 innings.
Cave, who was designated for assignment on March 12, split 2017 between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He hit a combined .305 with 20 home runs and 56 RBI in 103 games.
The 25-year-old hit .285 with 39 homers and 223 RBI in 599 games over his six years in the Yankees' organization
