Yankees Celebrate Playoff Berth

Andrew Rotondi··3 min read

First things first: yes the Yankees should have celebrated clinching a Wild Card playoff berth. It was their first playoff berth since 2012, and even though two years does not sound like a long time, it felt like a long time. No, they have not been playing well but that all goes out the window on Tuesday. Its a one game season and they have a chance. They earned it, and certainly celebrated. They were also celebrating the franchises' 10,000th win. They became the first AL team to reach this milestone, and have done it in a shorter time than any other franchise. The Yankees win percentage of .569 is 31 points higher than the next closest team.

OK, onto the good stuff... Who thought we'd see this image back in April? I don't even think ARod thought we would.

Its been a few years, ARod forgot what champagne looked like.

John Ryan Murphy stole the show. He looked like a high school kid drinking for the first time -- just pure happiness. The young guys like Murphy, Bird, Severino, and Refsnyder have given this team a lift time after time this season and I have a feeling they are going to come up big in the playoffs as well. As a fan its fun to root for these guys, and its great to see Murphy's personality coming through. Even when he's celebrating, he's backing up Mac.

Live it up, John. But starting today the page everyone should be on is winning. Other highlights:

Don't worry, Greg will learn. He is going to be here for a while. Its this kind of naivety that will play well in the playoff pressure.

Greg Bird had no idea champagne would burn his eyes. Thought the goggles he'd seen in pictures were to protect from flying corks. True story

I love this. You think Tanaka is taking the playoffs seriously? He knows he has a game to win on Tuesday. #NoDaysOff

Tanaka just showered and went to his locker - half the team surrounded him, doused him w/ champagne, and chanted "Dont shower first!" — Daniel Barbarisi (@DanBarbarisi) October 2, 2015

Tanaka did end up getting in on the action.

Hopefully this team has one more celebration in them, about a month from now. This will always the GOAT though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLDPfXdTd0g&app=desktop
