Yankees linked to Shelby Miller
The Yankees and Hal Steinbrenner have shown a reluctancy of handing out long-term, big money contracts to free agents, leaving Brian Cashman to get creative to upgrade his team. Trades have been a big part of the Yankees game plan since last offseason and Cashman is doing his due diligence this year as well. The Yankees have been linked to 25-year-old right hander Shelby Miller of the Atlanta Braves.

Miller, however, is a hot commodity as many teams around the league have contacted the Braves about his availability. Atlanta seems to be in full rebuild mode as they have already traded Cameron Maybin and Andrelton Simmons this offseason. The right-hander went 6-17 with a 3.02 ERA. His record is a little skewed since the Braves struggled all season. Miller led the league in starts with 33 and with the health concerns throughout the Yankees rotation, you can understand why the Yankees are checking in. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported that the Braves asked for the Yankees best pitching prospect Luis Severino in return for Miller. However, he says that Severino was a request and that "there is no evidence the Yankees are considering that." Severino burst onto the scene in 2015. In 11 starts he was 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA. Cashman has stated all along that Severino is untouchable but the Braves are asking for a lot in return for Miller.
