Aaron Boone added that Bird will be ready to return to the Big League club in 10 to 20 days.
The 25-year-old 1B has yet to get in on any of the action this year, as he underwent foot surgery just days before the regular season kicked off.
Bird, a career .227 hitter, figures to take over the starting first base job upon his return, as incumbent starter Tyler Austin has struggled as of late. Neil Walker has also handled first base duties so far this season, and is starting to heat up.
It will be interesting to see if Bird is able to stay healthy and fulfill his high ceiling. If he answers these questions in the affirmative, the Yankee lineup will become even scarier to opposing pitchers, an idea that is sure to excite Yankee fans when the time comes.
